The story begins in modern-day Tehran, where a series of mysterious disappearances attracts public attention. All the missing people are women, but the reason behind their disappearance remains unknown.
Ashian Modabber, a crime journalist, begins investigating the case and gradually moves closer to its main suspect. As she searches for answers, the boundaries between the real world and an ancient legend become increasingly uncertain. The missing women appear to share a connection with another world in which violence can only be stopped if the true Scheherazade is found.
The series draws inspiration from the classic tale of King Shahryar, a ruler who marries a new woman each night and orders her death the following morning. Scheherazade attempts to survive and end the violence by telling the king a new story every night, leaving each tale unfinished until the next evening.
By connecting this familiar legend to a modern investigation, the series explores courage, storytelling, survival, and the power of women to resist injustice. The mystery develops across two different worlds, encouraging viewers to discover how the contemporary characters are linked to the ancient story.
The series is directed and produced by Mostafa Kiaei, with a screenplay written by Naghmeh Samini and Mostafa Kiaei. Its cast brings together Iranian and Turkish performers.
The Iranian cast includes Parviz Parastui, Bahram Radan, Hediyeh Tehrani, Mohsen Kiaei, Sahar Dolatshahi, Pedram Sharifi, Pantea Panahiha, Habib Rezaei, Mohammad Bahrani, and Banipal Shoomoon. Turkish actors including Belçim Bilgin, Gizem Karaca, Cemal Hünal, and Levent Özdilek also appear in the production.
One Thousand and One Nights may appeal to viewers who enjoy mysteries, fantasy, historical legends, and stories that move between reality and imagination. Its combination of a criminal investigation and the enduring Scheherazade legend gives the series a distinctive narrative structure.
