Maste Eshgh(مست عشق) Intoxicated by Love (Mast-e Eshgh) is a 2024 Iranian-Turkish historical drama directed by Hassan Fathi. Set in the thirteenth century, the film presents a cinematic interpretation of the extraordinary relationship between the Persian poet Rumi and the wandering mystic Shams of Tabriz.

Story

Rumi is already a respected scholar and spiritual teacher when Shams arrives in Konya. Their encounter transforms Rumi’s understanding of faith, love, and human existence. Inspired by Shams and his unconventional ideas, Rumi gradually moves beyond his established public identity and begins a deeply personal spiritual journey.

However, their close relationship creates jealousy and opposition among some of Rumi’s followers and family members. As tensions grow, Shams faces hostility from people who fear his influence. His mysterious disappearance leaves a profound mark on Rumi, shaping the poetry and spiritual philosophy for which he later becomes internationally celebrated.

The story combines historical drama, romance, and mysticism while exploring devotion, sacrifice, prejudice, and the search for divine love.
