New Jersey – An Iranian Filmed Theater Drama

نیوجرسی

New Jersey (فیلم نیوجرسی)New Jersey is an Iranian filmed stage production directed by Saeed Dashti and written by Saleh Alavizadeh. Combining drama, mystery, and elements of dark humor, the story explores revenge, emotional trauma, social pressure, and the lasting consequences of harmful traditions.

Story

The story begins beside a road, near a concrete traffic barrier commonly known as a “New Jersey.” A young woman has survived an attempted suicide in a lake and returns with a clear purpose. She wants to confront the people connected to the painful events that changed her life.

Her return gradually brings several characters together. Each person carries a different version of the past, and their relationships are shaped by concealed motives, broken trust, and unresolved emotional wounds. As their conversations continue, the audience discovers that the apparent victims and offenders cannot always be separated easily.

Revenge is one of the production’s central themes. The main character believes that confronting those responsible will allow her to regain control of her life. However, every confrontation reveals another layer of the story and raises questions about responsibility, punishment, and whether revenge can genuinely bring relief.

The title has a symbolic connection to the production’s setting. Like the concrete barriers used to separate lanes of traffic, the characters are emotionally divided. They remain close to one another, yet their conflicting desires and memories prevent them from moving in the same direction.

Cast and Production

The cast includes Mahtab Servati, Amirhossein Fathi, Mohammad Larian, Fatemeh Masoudifar, and Meysam Mirzaei. The production was directed by Saeed Dashti, written by Saleh Alavizadeh, and produced by Arian Amirkhan.

Because the story was originally created for the stage, dialogue and performance play a central role. The limited setting allows the actors’ expressions, silences, and confrontations to carry much of the dramatic tension.

Why Watch it?

New Jersey may appeal to viewers interested in psychological drama, theatrical storytelling, and stories about complicated human relationships. It uses a small group of characters to examine how love, resentment, fear, and social expectations can influence important decisions.

The filmed version preserves the intensity of a live theatrical performance while making the production accessible to audiences beyond the original theater.
